Easter Treats: Crocheted Beanie Egg Cosies and Pompom Bunny Tail Keychains

Happy Easter! Here is a couple of projects I made in keeping with this Sunday's celebration-- pompom bunny tail keychains and crocheted beanie egg cosies. Both are quick and simple projects that you can finish in minutes. They're functional and super cute too!

I used a pompom maker to make the bunny tails, using a combination of white and gray yarn. If you don't have a pompom maker, you can improvise one following this tutorial. Using the long string with which I tied the yarn to form the pompom, I tied my bunny tail onto a single chain link (or you can use a jump ring) which I then attached to the swivel lock and key ring. That's it!

For the egg cosies, I used 4-ply high bulk acrylic yarn and a size 7 aluminum (Hamanaka) crochet hook. Finished cosy fits a "Large" size egg.

Beanie Egg Cosy Crochet Pattern:
*Note: I am fairly new to writing my own patterns. If this pattern seems confusing to you, please let me know!

Abbreviations:
ch- chain
sc- single crochet
sts- stitches
hdc- half double crochet
sl st- slip stitch

Do not join rounds. Work in a continuous spiral.

Chain 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd chain from hook (5 sts)

R1: 2 sc in next 5 stitches (10 sts)
R2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* 5 times (15 sts)
R3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* 5 times (20 sts)
R4: *3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* 5 times (25 sts)
R5-R8: sc in next 25 stitches in each round (25 sts)

Do not fasten yet. Continue to work on first ear flap.

R9: 1 hdc in next 5 sts. ch 1, turn.
R10: 1 hdc in next 3 sts. ch1, turn.
R11: 1 hdc in next stitch. Then chain 8. Fasten off.

Do the same on the opposite side of the beanie to form 2nd ear flap. Sl st to join yarn then proceed with hdc in next 5 sts (as in R9). Fasten off. Make a small pompom and sew onto top of beanie.

On a side note: I didn't even know before this that egg cosies do have a function. Apparently, they're used to keep soft-boiled eggs warm 'til you eat them. I never knew ('cause I always like my eggs over easy). I thought they just looked cute! I guess that's enough reason to make some anyway, right? Well, enjoy!
